You will need certain Microsoft administrative permissions to perform actions using the ShareGate migration tool. To get the most out of the app with optimal results, you can follow these permissions guidelines:
- In Microsoft 365, get a global admin to grant consent to the Azure the ShareGate migration tool application. This will allow SharePoint admins to work on Teams and Microsoft 365 Groups, and it will help to reduce the amount of throttling.
- Get SharePoint admin permissions if you are in Microsoft 365, or farm admin permissions in SharePoint on-premises.
- For migrations, get term store admin permissions on your source and destination.
- In the app settings, toggle on Allow auto-assign as a site collection administrator when required on SharePoint only. You can also use the option on OneDrive for Business, but we do not recommend it unless you run a OneDrive for Business operation, such as reporting or Explorer.
Note: These recommendations are applicable to both your source and destination.
