The Explorer allows you to navigate your connections, target objects, and manage your environments.
Index
Prerequisites
- You are connected to your site collection(s), Microsoft 365 Admin center, or SharePoint central admin.
- You have site collection admin permissions on your targeted site collection(s).
Notes:
- Site collection admin permissions are required even if you have higher admin privileges like SharePoint admin or Global admin permissions. For more information click here.
- The Azure the ShareGate migration tool application must be consented on your Microsoft 365 tenant if you want to manage your Microsoft 365 groups.
Tip: To manage all your site collections, you can connect to your central admin or admin center with SharePoint admin, Farm admin or Global admin permissions.
Connections
Once you have connected to one or multiple environments, you can select whether to view one or all of them by selecting from the drop-down.
To disconnect from an environment, click disconnect.
To refresh an environment, hover your cursor over the name and click the refresh icon .
You can add an additional connection by clicking Add Connection. For more on connecting to an environment, see this page.
Search
You can search by name or by URL. You can also select multiple search items by hovering over the results and clicking to add or with CTRL + click.
To complete the search press Enter on your keyboard or click the search icon.
Explorer List
The Explorer list allows you to easily navigate your connected environments and explore the different objects (Web Applications, Site Collections, Sites, Documents, etc.).
To drill down, double click on an object or use the Navigate button that appears when you hover your cursor over the object.
You can drill down as far as possible using this method. To go back to a previous level, click on the desired object in the breadcrumb.
The Quick actions menu is always available in the right pane. You can also access a contextual menu by right-clicking an object or by clicking the ellipsis (...) symbol to the right of the breadcrumbs.
Select one or multiple Filters to display specific object types.
Quick actions
You can run a report or manage your security in the Quick actions panel at the right. Quick actions only appear when you select an object from your Explorer list.
Note: Only the actions available for your selected item(s) will appear.
Features
- Bulk edit content: Allows you to modify the content of a list or library.
- Download: Download your content to a local or shared drive.
- Duplicate site collection: Allows you to create a duplicate of an existing site collection.
Security reports
- Permissions matrix report: View all the permissions assigned to your subsites, lists, libraries, folders, documents, and items.
- External sharing report: Find all the objects shared with External users or via anonymous guest links.
- Audit report: View the list of all the events that the users of a SharePoint environment have made on it. Note that this action is not available on public site collection and in Microsoft 365. Auditing must be activated to run the Audit Report.
- Activate auditing: Activate audit event tracking on farms, web applications, and site collections. Note that this action is not available on public site collection and in Microsoft 365.
Security actions
- Break inheritance: Stop inheriting the parent's permissions by copying all of its permissions into the highlighted object.
- Restore inheritance: Remove custom permissions, and use the parent's permissions instead.
- Remove Permissions: Revoke permissions to sites and/or lists for multiple users/groups.
- Check Permissions: Find all the access a specific user/group has on your SharePoint environment.
- Copy User Permissions: Copy the permissions from a source user to multiple users/groups.
- Clean Orphaned Users: Delete orphaned users (disabled in Active Directory) from farms, web applications and site collections.
- Clean Limited Access: Remove all unnecessary "Limited Access" permissions.
General actions
- Edit: Allows you to apply a transformation to a site collection.
- Settings: Opens the settings for the selected item in your browser.
- Delete permanently: Deletes the selected item(s). This action cannot be undone directly in the ShareGate migration tool. If needed, your items can be recovered from your recycling bin in SharePoint or Microsoft 365.
Permissions
Can be expanded
View the applicable permission types. Click + Add to add new permissions.
Administrators
Can be expanded
View the administrator(s). Click + Add to add administrator(s). Expand this section and click on Remove next to one of your administrators to remove it.
Owners
Can be expanded
View the site owner(s). Click + Add to add owner(s). Expand this section and click on Remove next to one of your owners to remove it.
External Users
Can be expanded
View the list of external users.
Members
Can be expanded
Displays a list of member within a site collection or group. Click + Add to add member(s). Expand this section and click on Remove next to one of your members to remove it.
Manage teams and Microsoft 365 groups
Brings you to your Group details in the ShareGate management module.
If you have multiple Microsoft 365 groups selected in the migration tool, the app will take you to the Manage page of the management module, with the same groups selected.
The Teams management module is included with your ShareGate subscription. It allows you to perform the tasks listed below and more:
- Entrust owners.
- Assign owners to orphaned teams and groups.
- Categorize your teams and groups with purposes tags.
- Manage external sharing.
- Archive and delete unused teams and groups.
- Edit the membership of your teams and groups.
- Review the Microsoft 365 Activity on your tenant.
Properties
The specific site properties such as name, title, description, and so on.
Some settings can be modified directly in the properties section.
