When attempting to migrate documents and/or list items, the ShareGate migration tool warns that the authors and timestamps system properties (Created, Created By, Modified, and Modified By) will not be preserved after the migration.
In some situations, SharePoint does not offer services for client applications such as the ShareGate migration tool to set specific system properties.
For authors and timestamps, a migration to a SharePoint 2007 destination environment requires the Server Extension in order to preserve these properties. For more information, see List of values the Server Extension preserves.
The Server Extension helps to lift certain limitations and preserve certain values.
If you are running a migration from a source environment of SharePoint 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, or Microsoft 365 to an on-premises destination environment of SharePoint 2007, you will need to install the Server Extension on the destination to preserve authors and timestamps.
For how-to, see Installation - Server Extension.
- The Server Extension is not compatible with SharePoint 2003.
- You do not need the extension in Microsoft 365. For more information, see Server Extension checklist.
- As SharePoint Server 2007 is past the end of its Microsoft support lifetime, ShareGate is no longer able to provide full support of this product. For more information, see Contacting our technical support team.
