When attempting to copy a document, the ShareGate migration tool displays the following error:
Draft versions are not enabled on your list and only draft versions are available for copy.
When copying documents, the ShareGate migration tool will preserve the version history as it is at the source, but it will also respect the settings of the destination library.
If the destination library only allows the creation of major (published) versions, the ShareGate migration tool will only copy the major versions from the source and will not copy the minor (draft) versions. When the source only has draft versions available, then the ShareGate migration tool has nothing to copy and this error occurs.
There are 3 possible solutions to this issue:
- From the Explorer, drill down and select the library you want to update. In the quick actions panel on the right, scroll to Versioning. Toggle on Versioning and Minor versions. The changes will apply immediately so you can redo your migration.
- Make sure you have at least one major (published) version of each document at the source.
- Set the destination library to allow draft versions. This can be done by going into the destination library settings and changing the version settings. For more information, see the Microsoft article Enable and configure versioning for a list or library.
